The Perthshire Amber Big Knit is a hand's on way of raising funds for our selected charities. Festival-goers and knitters from afar have over the years contributed their time and energy to create a knitted blanket and other special articles that are auctioned, raffled or sold to help show our support in a unique, creative and involving way. Valued sponsors of this initiative since it began have been Artesano and Brittany.
Dougie MacLean's mother Dolly was the Big Knit's first co-ordinator (2007 - 2010) and continues to help with the knitting and overseeing of the Big Knit Team that has gradually evolved.
In 2018 we broadened out from the Big Knit Blanket and focused as well on knitted hats, kid's knitted toys and anything else that folks fancied knitting ..in advance or during the festival!
Even though the Perthshire Amber Festival has been cancelled due to Covid 19, we’re so pleased to be helping The Cyrenians again in 2020 and 2021. The Cyrenians, through their many really 'hands on' initiatives, are supporting people excluded from family, home, work or community on their life journey. Find out more about the great work they do www.cyrenians.scot .Also contribute to this year's Big Knit 2021 through kind donation..whether or not in return for some wonderful knitted items.
Thank you to everyone who knits and buys hats and other things. We couldn’t do it without you!
