It will be much more 'music’ focused with loads of acoustic music sessions, Open Mic, Cabaret Amber...with great friend Tim Edey joining Dougie for a concert in the historic and atmospheric Murthly Castle Chapel, one big 'Dougie' concert in Perth Concert Hall... and a Farewell Bash in the beautiful setting of Dunkeld House on the banks of the River Tay.
Almost all our festival team is back together to help me organise with a lot of wonderful musicians amongst them ...so even our Farewell Concert on the Sunday in Dunkeld House will be a very special one. In future years I will probably gradually add back in the concerts with more musical guests from Scotland and abroad. This year we are really focusing on the team and on festival goers getting involved themselves in the music.
I have had loads of applications for the open mic and Cabaret Amber ...and I feel like this is what's needed most in today's music scene in Scotland. There are loads of festivals with great concerts presenting great artists (and we have enjoyed 12 years of that)...but the heart of Perthshire Amber (as we need to simplify the festival this year) is that desire to make music and be involved....whether it's singing along with Dougie or joining in on a pub session...or entertaining for maybe the first time at the Open Mic. Then Cabaret Amber takes aspiring musicians to the next step...I really do love it all!
So for those who have been lucky enough to get tickets for all the concerts (including Cabaret Amber) we look forward to seeing lots of you over the 3 days!!
For those who are just deciding to come along…you can still get tickets for Dougie’s big concert in Perth Concert Hall on Saturday 3rd November ….but they are really disappearing fast so get them NOW at www.perthshireamber.com
Even if you don’t have concert tickets just come to Dunkeld and enjoy the music sessions in the 4 pubs (Atholl Arms, Royal Dunkeld Hotel, The Taybank, The Perth Arms)! Also come and buy some winter woolies (hats, gloves, kids toys, other knitted surprises!) and enjoy the Big Knit Lounge from 12 midday on Friday to 2pm Sunday) or visit the Amber Market on Saturday 11am-4pm to discover the work of some wonderful local artists and crafters!
I want to mention…we are so lucky to have our PALS (Perthshire Amber Local Supporters). The local businesses in Dunkeld and Birnam and other parts of Perthshire help to make Perthshire Amber the welcoming festival that it is…so enjoy what they all have to offer while you are here at the festival.
Last thing…don’t forget to bring along something for our Amber Harvest collection for The Cyrenians…the great charity that we support who through their many really 'hands on' initiatives are supporting people excluded from family, home, work or community on their life journey. Bring along any non-perishable food (tins, packets, jars, bottles) to add to our baskets at all venues or in the Big Knit Lounge.
Dougie and I are so looking forward to seeing you all again in Dunkeld!
