As the Festival founder and Musical Director, Dougie MacLean explains how the festival is evolving and that 2013 festival goers are in for a treat:
"When we started Perthshire Amber it was just a weekend of concerts in Pitlochry, now we have ten days of concerts, talks, walks, workshops, pub sessions and fantastic music sounding out across much of Perthshire. I couldn’t be more pleased to have wonderfully gifted musicians such as Karine Polwart , Charlie McKerron, Tim Edey and Karen Matheson joining us this year and I am delighted that fantastic young talent such as Ross Ainslie & Jarlath Henderson, Anderson McGinty Webster Ward and Fisher and The Hazey Janes are all headlining concerts during the festival. We also have great international talent with Buddy MacDonald returning from Cape Breton, Canada and SeaStar from the USA joining the festival."
The ten day festival is now in its ninth year, attracts over 8000 music fans that travel from all over the world to enjoy a wonderful mix of Scottish, International, Folk and Celtic music. Autumn is an especially stunning time of year in Perthshire, where the scenery is beautiful and the welcome is always very warm.
The very popular Amber Afternoon Concerts return this year with venues including Castle Menzies, Caputh Church, Butterstone Village Hall, Hilton Dunkeld Garden Room, Methven Castle, The Crannog and new for 2013 Murthly Castle Chapel.
The packed 2013 programme also includes Amber Discoveries which includes a series of walks, talks, workshops, the Perthshire Amber SongBus and the ever popular Decorated Wheelbarrow Procession. This element of the programme has been developed to truly encourage visitors to get involved in and appreciate Scotland’s natural bounty and wonderful landscape as well as its culture and heritage. This year’s workshops include making skincare products from natural ingredients, bee keeping, group singing and various musical instrument masterclasses.
For Dougie MacLean fans THE Dougie concert this year will be the premier Perthshire Amber performance of ‘The MacLean Project’ . Described as “...a brilliant weave of great songs, skilled instrumental magic and a range of mood that leaves the audience clamouring for more!” (RootsWorld USA) this exciting collaboration which brings together Dougie MacLean, Jamie MacLean, Ross Ainslie, Sorren Maclean, Gordon Maclean, Chris Marra, Laura Beth Salter, Hannah Fisher and Pete Garnett is set to thrill audiences on the 1 November at Perth Concert Hall and is tipped as the hot ticket of the festival.
