Katee Kross is an 20 year old singer/songwriter from Bishopbriggs just outside Glasgow and this will be her 8th year playing at Perthshire Amber. Hers is one of the stories we love! Katie first performed at the tender age of about 11 as part of the Bishopbriggs Ceilidh Band. They all arrived at the festival in a minibus and delighted the Open Mic audience! Since then she has performed in small bands and different combinations and has of late struck out both on her own, as a duo with Ross Barron and with her band The Amberjax.
Katee was a finalist in the 2014 Spree festival Danny Kyle Stage and at the Celtic Connections Danny Kyle Stage. She also played at The Strathyre Music festival, the Kirkintilloch Music Festival , the Linlithgow Music festival as well as at Perthshire Amber and Celtic Connections.
Katie released her first album ‘Beautiful Dreamer’ in March 2016 and more recently her second album ‘Don’t Fade To Grey’ in March 2017. Katee Kross and The Amberjax new album – ‘Body & Soul’ will be launched on the 13th October 2018..and will be available at our festival!
Katee has been making a name for herself in the Scottish music scene and has supported artists like Dougie MacLean, Barbara Dickson, Karine Polwart, James Grant, John Doyle, Findlay Napier and Tony McManus.
In October 2016 Katee was invited by American Country/Blues Legend Seasick Steve to sing his song, ‘Purple Shadows’ live on stage at Wembley Arena, London in front of 12,500 people. Katee was then asked to support Seasick Steve at the Kelvingrove Bandstand with her band ‘The Amberjax’ on the 9th August 2017.
Katee and Ross will be co-hosts of the Open Mic sessions this year. We know that our dear friend Ewen Sutherland, who was so enthusiastic about their music and supportive of them over the years, would be proud of his successors. Katee Kross and Ross will also be guests on one of the Cabaret Amber Concerts and will be performing at the Farewell Bash on Sunday.
