7th Perthshire Amber Festival  - Another Resounding  Success!

With 80% of the concerts sold out, visitor numbers up on last year and music fans  travelling to autumnal Perthshire from a record breaking 22 countries across the world, we  are declaring this year's festival a huge success! The festival’s move to Dunkeld was also one that proved really popular with festival-goers and the festival team were overwhelmed by the welcome they received from local businesses.

The ten day festival this year starred Jimmie MacGregor, Archie Fisher, Beoga (Ireland), Buddy MacDonald (Canada) and Eliza Lynn (Nashville, USA) and a host of other wonderful musicians all performing alongside ‘Scotland’s Musical Hero’ Dougie MacLean, who’s hit anthem ‘Caledonia’ was recently voted one of Scotland’s best loved songs on the ITV Show ‘Scotland’s Greatest Album’.

This year’s festival also included a dedicated Outdoors programme to encourage visitors from near and far to get out and about to enjoy the autumnal delights of Perthshire. This proved extremely popular – in particular the Beaver Watch Walk at Bamff House and the Tattie Fest and the Decorated Wheelbarrow Procession in Dunkeld were very successful.

Dougie believes this festival to be the best ever:

“It’s impossible for me to pick one highlight, as the whole ten days are such a journey, from performing with the delightful Emily Smith at Edradour Distillery at our Opening Concert to some of the wonderful new venues such as Methven Castle and Pitlochry Town Hall to some of the unique and fascinating collaborations at the two big concerts at Perth Concert Hall – there are just too many highlights to pick from!  Based at Amber Central (The Royal Hotel, Dunkeld) the Open Mic and early evening Cabaret Amber were enjoyed by bigger audiences than ever before. One thing, which on reflection has really stuck in my mind, is the welcome we received at the new festival home in Dunkeld and the way the local people and businesses got behind the festival – the fantastic turn out at our first annual Decorated Wheelbarrow Procession makes me proud to be a part of this community.”
